Megan's Story
Hi! I’m Megan and I had an AVM rupture in my right frontal lobe as I was sleeping at 15 years old in April 2014. It caused a massive hemorrhagic stroke and lead to left sided hemiparesis. I was given a less than 10% chance of survival with no hope of ever recovering any motor function in my body. My family was prepared for me to be a vegetable for the rest of my life after I made it through an emergency craniotomy to remove a blood clot and fix the AVM hemorrhaging.
The doctors were right I was a vegetable for the first few weeks. But I was determined to not stay that way! I searched online for someone who was in my condition and sharing their story and recovery, but I couldn’t find anyone. It was really discouraging and I felt so alone on my road to recovery. That’s when I decided to start my TikTok page! It took a few years to build up the confidence in where I was with my recovery before I could put myself out there, but eventually I got brave enough!
The inspiration, community, understanding, and love I’ve received since then has only helped me progress even further. I had goals in mind I thought were completely unobtainable. I’ve hit them, and even surpassed them, with the support of other survivors! I found that when it feels like the world has given up on us, we’ll never give up on each other.
